Maya Plisetskaya managed the jury of the 5th Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Competition (RNIBC) in Budapest

From 4-10 March 2008 all attention was directed towards the 5th International Nureyev Ballet competition in Budapest. The competition took place after a long interval and coincided with the 70th birthday of Rudolf Nureyev († 1993) who was regarded as being the best male ballet dancer of the 20th century. 68 female and male dancers between 15-27 years of age from 16 different countries had the chance to show their talents before a renowned jury under the leadership of Maya Plisetskaya, the living legend, the prima ballerina assoluta of the Bolshoy Theatre.

The nomination succeeded in the categories of female and male performers. The First Prize and a gold medal went to the female dancer Anastasia Lomachenkova (Mikhailovski Theatre St Petersburg/Russia) and to the male dancer Andrei Pisarev (Theatre for Opera and Ballet Donetsk/Ukraine). For the male dancers the Special Prize by the jury was awarded to Richárd Szábo (Hungarian Dance Academy Budapest, prize winner of the 2nd class Vaganova Prix 2006). The Special Prize of the jury to the "Most Promising Young Dancer" was received by two young ballet dancers of the world famous Hungarian Dance Academy Budapest - Gergely Leblanc and ?gota Ecseki. In addition the prize for "Best Dancing Partner" was awarded to Anton Ploom of the Mikhailovski Theatre, St Petersburg/Russia.

The Prize Giving Gala took place at the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest.
