Rodion Shchedrin's book "Autobiographical notes" was published in Moscow
"The memoirs of this great composer are a sensation of world-wide importance" - in such a way the Russian press wrote about the appearance of the first autobiographic book of Rodion Shchedrin. The book presentation was held on 2nd October in the "Bukva", the leading bookstore of Moscow - straight punctually for the golden wedding of the composer and his wife Maya Plisetskaya, counted as the ballet dancer of the last century. In an interview on 10th October for the newspaper "Izvestiya" Rodion Shchedrin told a few words about his book and the time of writing:
"Over several years I have repeatedly done notes, sketches and text for the book. I chose the title of "Autobiographical Notes". In these drafts, I make no secrets. Perhaps there will be people whom my open statements do not quite fit, but I tried to describe the past few emotionally, rather than in a documented way. The chapters of the book are about the major stations of my already quite long life: my teachers, my childhood, the war, my ancestors ... Also upon the musicians with whom I have worked and was friend, the performers of my works, whose high art of playing has helped much for the confirmation of the value of my music". The book contains detailed reports about the collaboration with Mstislav Rostropovich, with the wonderful artist Alexandr Lvovich Tyshler, with the conductors Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons. There are many persons who act and I appreciate especially the wonderful selection of photos - nobody was forgotten. Already the photos make the book interesting to browse in ... The most important fact: the book is dedicated to Maya Plisetskaya. It is a declaration of love to my wife."
