Lithuanian Prima Ballerina Eglė Špokaitė receives Maya Plisetskaya Award

The Award ceremony took place on Mai, 20 2009 after the premiere of the ballett „Anna Karenina“ on the stage of the Lithuanian National Ballet and Opera Theatre. The Award was founded by the International Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin Foundation. The Foundation was founded 2000 by the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Maya Plisetskaya und her renowned husband - composer Rodion Shchedrin in Mainz, Germany. Eglė Špokaitė is the 2nd to be awarded the Prize of Maya Plisetskaya for her input into the development of the ballet, brilliant dance technique and innovative ideas on the worldwide ballet scene.

1994 Eglė Špokaitė has already received the bronze medal from Maya Plisetskaya during the Ballet competition „Maya“ in St.Petersburg, Russia. Maya Plisetskaya has always watched after the carrier of Eglė Špokaitė on the international stage. Her light movements, elegance and temperament, especially when performing the most famous role created by Alberto Alonso for Maya Plisetskaya „The Carmen“ found great response in the words of the great ballerina.

The ballet „Anna Karenina“ was written 1971 by Rodion Shchedrin for his wife Maya Plisetskaya. Maya Plisetskaya who performed the main role created the choreography for this ballet. The worldwide known mode designer Pierre Cardin made all dresses for the premiere of the ballet in Moscow at the stage of Bolshoi Theatre. 1974 the Mosfilm studio created a ballet film “Anna Karenina” with Maya Plisetskaya in the main role.
