Rodion Shchedrin Chamber Music Award 2017

The Managing board of the International Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin Foundation has decided to present the “Rodion Shchedrin Award” for the Year 2017 to Ekaterina Sergeeva for her great achievement in performances of the solo parts in the operas of Rodion Shchedrin on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.  

Ekaterina Sergeeva graduated from St. Petersburg Conservatory named after N. Rimsky-Korsakov in 2005. Directly after graduation she started working in the Mariinsky Theatre where she has sung since 2004 in the Academy of the young singers. 2017 she was accepted into the company of the Mariisnsky theatre. Her outstanding vocal abilities and impeccable artistry let her play many roles.  

In the operas of Rodion Shchedrin she took over the following parts:  

  • Varvara Vasil’evna in the opera"Not Love Alone"
  • Princess Charlotte in the opera "The Left-Hander"
  • Gypsy Grusha in the opera"The Enchanted Wanderer"
  • The Zarina in the Opera "A Christmas Tale"
  • Boyarinya Morozova in the namesake opera

The award ceremony took place during the Festival of Rodion Shchedrin on the 22nd December 2017 on the stage of the Grand Concert Hall named after P. I. Tchaikovsky in Moscow. The Orchestra and company of the Mariinsky Theatre performed the first opera of Rodion Shchedrin “Not Love Alone” under the conduction of Valery Gergiev. After the performance, Rodion Shchedrin and Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker handed the Award over to Ekaterina Sergeeva
