“Gergiev Festival Mikkeli 2010”

Works by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin formed the core of the XIX Gergiev Festival 2010 in the East-Finnish town Mikkeli, which took place from 4th to 8th July. Under the baton of Valery Gergiev the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra played “Two Tangos by Albéniz”, the Trumpet Concerto (with Timur Martynov) and the “Symphonic Diptych” among others. Internationally renowned pianist Denis Matsuev was the soloist in a performance of the 5th Piano Concerto.
