The Foundation - News December 2010 The most important Music Award Grammy, which importance is comparable to the Academy Award (Oscar) in the film industry, nominated Rodion Shchedrin for his opera The Enchanted Wanderer in the category Best Classical Contemporary Composition. Shchedrin and the other four nominees in the same category, the composers Michael Daugherty, Hans Werner Henze, Magnus Lindberg and Arvo Pärt, will await full of suspence the final decision of the jury at the Grammy Award ceremony on 13th February 2011 in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It is already the second nomination of Shchedrin for a Grammy. In the year 2001 the composer was nominated in the category Best Classical Contemporary Composition for his music work Concerto cantabile. But this year his name will be heard more often at the Grammy Awards ceremony, because the opera The Enchanted Wanderer is also nominated as the Best Opera Recording. The Label Mariinsky together with the orchestra and the choir of the Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg, Russia) under the direction of Valery Gergiev are appreciated for an excellent recording on CD.
