Performance of the 6th piano concerto in Munich

The 6th piano concerto with the title „Concerto lontano“ Rodion Shchedrin composed in 2003 for the 75th birthday of the outstanding Russian-American pianist Bella Davidovich, with whom he has been friends for the common years of study at the Moscow Conservatory. The lightness and poetic elegance of her play, Shchedrin has always been fascinated of („as if the piano sang under her hands“), runs through the work and comes in particular into play through the application of many echo effects and a limited orchestra cast with strings. Now this piano concerto will be performed at the Prinzregententheater in Munich from the famous Shchedrin interpreter the pianist Anna Gourari together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio on 27th February. The orchestra is conducted by Kirill Karabits, who currently holds the post of principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in England. For Karabits, who is from the Ukraine, the musical world of Shchedrin is not a new territory. His preference for the music of the great Russian composer is particularly evident in the first CD recording with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, which was published in 2010 by Naxos and only contains works by Shchedrin – Concertos for Orchestra Nos. 4 and 5, and „Khrustal’niye gusli“ for orchestra (additional informations and samples of the CD you will find at: https://itunes.apple.com/de/album/shchedrin-concertos-for-orchestra/id362179917).
