An Exhibition about Maya Plisetskaya opens in A. Bachrushin Museum

«The Lawless Comet» of Maya Plisetskaya»

Andrei Voznesensky wrote about Maya Plisetskaya: «A storm of applause is heard in her name. It is rhymed with weeping larches, Persian lilac, Champs-Élysées, Advent. There are geographical and magnetic poles. Plisetskaya is a pole of magic».

On November 16, 2015, at 18:00, the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum invites to visit the opening of the exhibition «The Lawless Comet» of Maya Plisetskaya» in the new exhibitional hall of the Main Building – the Coach House.

Working dates of the exhibition for visitors: November 17 – December 17, 2015.

«The Lawless Comet» of Maya Plisetskaya» is an exhibition-dedication to the anniversary of the great ballet dancer, who boldly broke any canons and confirmed the leadership of her own style – the bright combination of innovation, fantasy, energy of passion, elegance and grace. The principal idea of the large-scale project of the museum is to collect, embrace and provide to spectators the diversity of the images that Maya Plisetskaya created on the stage.

Maya Plisetskaya has been connected with the A.A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum for many years of friendship. The ballerina was one of the most generous benefactors of the museum. This exhibition is the fourth of the museum that is dedicated to Maya Plisetskaya and one more possibility to show the respect and the admiration for the talent of the legendary ballet dancer.

Odette, Odile, Kitri, Isadora, Carmen, Anna Karenina, Nina Zarechnaya… Maya Plisetskaya wrote in the book «Thirteen Years Later» about her roles: «The principal roles of my ballet life. Many principal roles. It is my entire ballet destiny. My torments and triumphs. Hopes and dreams. Their realization. Each of these images gives rise to my reminiscences. There are so many things to tell about each of them, recall and share».

The outlines of the predecessors weren’t seen in the dance of Plisetskaya. She «responded» to a solo of any musical instrument in an orchestra and could highlight right key points only by a look or hardly visible move of an eyebrow. The absolute woman and the absolute talent, Plisetskaya remains to be the embodiment of the Dance.

At the exhibition the legendary images of the ballerina will come to life due to the original stage costumes of Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Valery Levental, Simon Virsaladze, Boris Messerer; due to the photos and the displays of the video recordings of the performances with Maya Plisetskaya in the leading roles.

The sculptures and the portrait busts of the ballerina are also represented at the exhibition. The figurines made by Galina Chechulina reconstruct the unique grace and the brightness of the images of Maya Plisetskaya.

The visitors will see a «premiere»: the sculpture «Carmen» made by Viktor Mitroshin on the threshold of the exhibition. The artist worked on it in collaboration with Maya Plisetskaya, she rated highly this work.
